Lecturer in English and Writing Studies

About the role

Te Kura Toi School of Arts is seeking a full-time Lecturer in English and Writing Studies. The programme has a vibrant student and staff culture, underpinned by our commitment to excellence and demonstrated by student success, research achievements and industry recognition.

The role will involve teaching relevant undergraduate and graduate courses across both the English and Writing Studies majors, actively contributing to the school’s research culture, and supervising student research. We welcome applicants with interest and strengths in Māori and Pacific writing and literature.

We require your expert knowledge of English and Writing Studies, with experience relevant to the level expected of Lecturer. The 4 pillars of the role require:

  • Teaching and Learning: Prepare and deliver innovative, research-informed lectures and assess your students’ learning
  • Supervision: Supervise honours, graduate and postgraduate students
  • Research: Build and maintain an active research programme, which may include creative outputs. Conduct quality research and contribute to knowledge development of your specialist areas through scholarship and publication
  • Service and Administration: Carry out administration and service relevant to the role

Salary will be in the range of $96,153 to $110,407 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours a week), based on our Hillcrest Campus.

Who are you?

You will have a PhD in English or Writing Studies. You will bring a passion for and expertise in English literary studies and creative writing, support the University's commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and understand how your research contributes to the profession and the wider community.

You will have experience teaching undergraduate students, including lecturing to large groups and conducting small-group seminars and tutorials. Your teaching will be research-led, and enhanced by innovative methods, materials, models and virtual techniques. In addition, you should be able to demonstrate how your own research contributes to or extends the existing research strengths in the English and Writing Studies programme and in Te Kura Toi School of Arts.

Who are we?

The role of Te Kura Toi School of Arts is to teach at undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and experiential (internship/externship) levels in the fields of Arts, including Environmental Planning, Humanities, Music, and Media & Creative Technologies, and to undertake research in these areas. The school offers a range of papers in Arts, at undergraduate, graduate and professional training levels.
