Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (HE) – Birmingham College, Sichuan Normal University, Chengdu, China
University College Birmingham (UCB), working in partnership with Sichuan Normal University (SICNU), is seeking experienced and enthusiastic EAP practitioners to join Birmingham College in Chengdu, China. The successful candidate will be employed by SICNU under a full-time, annually reviewed and renewed Chinese employment contract and will be academically managed by UCB.
The postholder will work closely with UCB colleagues in Birmingham and will be an active member of UCB's ELT, TNE, and wider staff community, with access to relevant academic systems, professional development, meetings and collaborative activity. This is an exciting opportunity to join a major new UK–China education partnership at its launch stage and contribute directly to the academic success and student experience of Birmingham College.
The role will focus on delivering high-quality, inclusive and contextualised EAP provision to students studying UCB programmes in Chengdu. In addition to classroom teaching, the postholder will contribute to assessment and feedback, student support, curriculum development, moderation, quality assurance and the wider academic life of Birmingham College.
We are looking for committed and experienced EAP practitioners who have:
- Excellent spoken and written English at native or near-native professional proficiency.
- At least 2 years’ experience teaching English for Academic Purposes in higher education.
- Experience supporting international students.
- A CELTA or CertTESOL (DELTA or equivalent desirable).
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A student-centred approach and commitment to high-quality academic provision.
- Ability and willingness to live and work in Chengdu, China for the duration of the appointment.
- Ability to satisfy the eligibility requirements for lawful employment and the relevant work authorisation in the People's Republic of China.
Experience of TNE delivery is desirable, but applicants with strong EAP experience and interest in international education are encouraged to apply.
This is a full-time, 1-year fixed-term contract, renewable by mutual agreement upon completion.
