The School of Languages and Cultures is seeking an inspiring and forward-thinking Lecturer in French (Teaching Focused) to join our vibrant academic community. In this role, you will conceptualize, coordinate and deliver high-quality undergraduate teaching. Your work will help shape a contemporary, engaging and future-focused French curriculum that responds to evolving student, professional and industry needs.

Teaching Focused (TF) academics primarily engage with teaching practice and impact (practice, policy, knowledge). You will have expertise in curricula, pedagogy, and assessment that enable student learning, and engage in activities that shape the culture of teaching excellence at UQ. You will have an emerging profile of teaching practice and impact as a course coordinator and will work on innovative projects that influence the teaching of others. Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching: Deliver and coordinate high-quality undergraduate teaching in French, design innovative and evidence-based curriculum and assessment (including online and blended delivery), contribute to program development, maintain course quality and currency, and provide strong academic guidance in line with University policies and standards. You will play a leading role in renewing and enhancing key language acquisition courses aligned with an action-oriented approach to language pedagogy. You will also contribute across the French program, with opportunities to teach in areas which might include translation and other fields aligned with your expertise.
  • Research: Integrate disciplinary expertise with pedagogical practice to build a developing profile in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning or research related to the teaching activities of this role, actively seek individual or collaborative funding and fellowships, and publish in high-quality peer-reviewed outlets and other appropriate publications.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Effectively engage in supervision duties which may include supervising Honours, Higher Degree by Research and vacation scholars (optional).
  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

Applicants should possess a PhD or equivalent in French and/or Francophone Studies broadly defined. Additionally, you will demonstrate:

  • Evidence of high-quality university teaching in the discipline across a variety of settings, including small and large groups with course coordination responsibilities.
  • High level of competence in both French and English, as required by the key responsibilities of the position.
  • An emerging profile of teaching impact in the discipline and/or emerging profile in education research in the discipline and/or emerging research profile related to the teaching activities of this role with high-quality outputs.
  • Participation in projects that improve curriculum, pedagogy, or assessment practices of others, with funded projects being particularly desirable and/or a record of contributing successfully to applications for research funds.
  • Participation in curriculum development at the program and/or course level in the discipline area.
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal and consultative skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in teaching and learning.
  • Evidence of the ability to work with student and staff populations that are diverse in terms of cultural background, identity, physical and neurological characteristics.
  • Evidence of involvement in the supervision of honours and Research Higher Degree students (optional).
