Job Description

POST OBJECTIVES: Deliver and manage on the Master of International Sports Business programme. Complete relevant administrative tasks including quality assurance documents relating to student feedback, moderation of assessments, and participation of Assessment Boards as required by GIS’ awarding bodies. Assist the Deputy Dean of the School to support staff teaching on the PG courses. To support the academic provision at overseas partnerships linked to GIS courses.

ABOUT GIS SYDNEY CAMPUS: The Master of International Sports Business programme is delivered in partnership with the University of Newcastle at the GIS Sydney Campus which incorporates the University of Newcastle’s Sydney CBD campus on Elizabeth Street and Venues NSW’s Allianz Stadium and Sydney Cricket Ground. RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To teach on designated modules and courses of study as defined by the Dean of School, including contributing to the academic delivery of online courses.
  2. Maintain academic standards and adhere to the course and module specifications.
  3. Design and deliver teaching materials at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including contributing to the curriculum review and enhancement, in a manner that supports and focuses on student learning outcomes.
    1. Preparation and delivery of lecture and seminar materials across various levels of study.
    2. Challenge thinking and foster debate to develop the ability for students to engage in critical discourse and rational thinking, stimulating excellence.
    3. Identify the learning needs of students and define appropriate learning objectives. Supervise the work of students- including student projects, field trips, and where appropriate, placement- and provide advice on study skills.
    4. Integrate innovative teaching methods, technology, and real-world applications into the curriculum to maintain student engagement and to provide opportunities to assess understanding.
    5. Track students’ engagement and feedback to the Course Leader. Maintain accurate records of student progress.
  4. Undertake student assessments and examination activities including the provision of appropriate feedback to students.
    1. Marking, assessing and internal verification of students’ work.
    2. Liaise with colleagues and External Examiners to identify and embed best practice within academic delivery
  5. Engage in continuous professional development.
    1. Develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning.
    2. Have an in-depth understanding of your own specialism to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field.
    3. Participate in research and personal professional development
  6. To participate in the department seminars aimed at knowledge sharing and building interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the department.
    1. Act as a responsible team member and develop productive working relationships with other members of staff.
    2. Participate in and develop external networks that promote GIS and contribute to and build relationships for future activities.
    3. Collaborate with colleagues on the development and implementation of assessment procedures.
  7. Be responsible for the pastoral care of students within a specified area.
    1. Act as a personal tutor, providing first-line support.
    2. Refer students to appropriate services providing further help (student services).
  8. Achieve set academic key performance indicators concerning attendance, retention, and achievement.
  9. Work with support staff, including the Course Leader to maintain high levels of student satisfaction rates.
  10. Contribute to the preparation of annual review and evaluation reports in line with institutional and validating partner reporting requirements, implementing module action plans as required in response to student feedback and outcomes.
  11. To undertake appropriate staff development and professional training in line with the business objectives of GIS, including attendance of all academic briefings
  12. To work within the policies of Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities.
  13. To work flexibly and responsibly and undertake any other duties relevant to the level of the post.

1. Previous Work Experience3 or more years of teaching and learning experience in a Higher Education Institution. 2 or more years of Industry experience in the sports industry. Course leadership experienceExtensive teaching and learning experience in HE Programme management experience Experience in project supervision for taught PG courses
1. Knowledge of core areasAbility to teach the following areas: Global Sports Marketing, Sports Sponsorship, Leadership and Sustainability in Sport Enterprises, Sports IntegrityAbility to teach across the GIS portfolio at UG, PG and professional levels
1. Specialist knowledge areasAbility to contextualise a range of Sport Management topics and related disciplines at AQF Level 9 Ability to lead modules at AQF Level 9Ability to lead courses at AQF Level 9
1. Student experienceAbility to provide a high-quality student learning experience (e.g. via large group sessions, small group sessions, supervision & pastoral supportDemonstrate innovation & creativity in developing resources to support student learning utilising a variety of teaching styles and where applicable innovative use of technologies
