Lecturer in Law

About the role

The Dickson Poon School of Law is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Law who will contribute to the teaching, research, and other academic and professional activities at The Dickson Poon School of Law.

The successful candidate is expected to have completed a PhD (or an equivalent qualification) by the starting date. They should be keen to gain further experience in research led teaching roles with active involvement in the administration and academic life of a thriving law school.

The successful candidate’s principal teaching contribution will be in Criminal Law on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

In their research, the successful candidate will have a demonstrably high potential to produce world-leading outputs in Law and/or Legal Theory in relation to criminal law or justice, and/or in Criminology, and a demonstrably high potential to attract research funding. The successful candidate will be impact-focused and able contribute, if applicable, to the research priorities of the research centres in the School of Law.

The successful candidates will be welcomed as an integral part of our faculty. It is an exciting time to join us as we implement our new vision and strategic direction. This role will contribute to how we shape the future of our vibrant and internationally renowned Law School.

This is a full time (35 hours per week) post and you will be offered on an indefinite contract.

About you

Essential criteria

  • PhD, DPhil or JSD or equivalent experience in Law.
  • Track record of excellent teaching in Criminal Law.
  • A commitment to teaching in the area of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Competence with electronic learning platforms and other IT skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, work collaboratively and collegiately as well as on one’s own initiative.
  • Demonstrable ability to publish high-quality research in Law and/or Legal Theory and/or Criminology, with a potential to generate impact.

Desirable criteria

  • The potential to attract major funding for research in the future.
  • Experience of successfully undertaking academic administrative roles.
  • Teaching award e.g., Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE)

Grade and Salary: £53,947 – £63,350 per annum including London Weighting Allowance
