JOB DESCRIPTION:

Pomona College is seeking a lecturer to fill a one-semester visiting position in Ethnomusicology in the Music Department for Fall 2026 (late August – December). Candidates should hold the Ph.D. or ABD and show evidence of ethnomusicological research as indicated by scholarly presentations or publications. Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years' relevant teaching experience. The candidate should be committed to working in an undergraduate liberal arts environment. The teaching load consists of two undergraduate courses: “Introduction to World Music†and “Ethnomusicology in Theory, Method, and Practice.†Weekly classes fall on Mondays and Wednesdays.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability or potential to teach and mentor exceptional students of diverse backgrounds—utilizing pedagogical practices that are rigorous, inclusive, and which promote academic equity.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education--Required:

• Ph.D. in hand by July 1, 2026 preferred
• ABD welcome to apply

Teaching Experience--Preferred:

• Two years relevant teaching experience

Please note: Employment is contingent upon providing proof of the legal right to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 for the duration of the contract, August 1, 2026 until December 31, 2026. Moving expenses are not available. The salary for this role is $20,000.
