Position Overview
The Division of Neurology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, in conjunction with the Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, invites applications for a full-time Academic Neurologist with expertise in stroke.
This Clinician Teacher appointment is eligible for rank at Lecturer or Assistant Professor, with Assistant Professor candidates expected to demonstrate advanced training and scholarship. The successful candidate will contribute to both clinical excellence and academic activities, emphasizing education in stroke disorders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical stroke care, including:
- On-call stroke services (minimum three overnight calls/month)
- Thrombolysis (tPA) administration and neurological assessment for endovascular therapies
- Stroke ward management and outpatient stroke care
- Support of neurocritical care related to neurovascular disease
- Participate in general neurology call, inpatient consultation, and neurocritical care rotation
- Develop and deliver educational curricula in stroke, leveraging advanced medical education training
- Contribute to scholarly activity, including research, quality improvement, and departmental initiatives
- Maintain a balanced workload: ~75% clinical care, ~25% scholarly and administrative activities
Qualifications
- MD degree
- Eligible for or certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Neurology
- Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- Advanced training in stroke (stroke fellowship preferred at a high-volume referral centre)
- Demonstrated expertise in acute stroke care, including tPA administration, endovascular surgical assessment, and post-operative optimization
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in academic and clinical work
- Strong interest in education and the ability to develop new curricula for trainees
Remuneration & Benefits
- Fee-for-service model: $295,000 – $400,000 CAD/year, commensurate with rank and experience
- Eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association, administering clinical billings and benefits
