About the role

Bournemouth University is in an exciting period in its development as an innovative institution committed to academic excellence. We have set in motion an ambitious plan that will support the development of high-quality academic programmes and build on areas of academic strength and potential. As part of this process Psychology has expanded rapidly both in terms of research activity and number of students studying undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The School of Psychology has undergone a period of expansion resulting in a vibrant research and learning culture.

The School currently has four research themes (Health & Clinical; Social, Forensic & Cyber; Perception; Attention, Spatial Cognition & Reading) and further research groups representing our staff expertise (Gambling, Sexual Violence, Emotions (incl. Eating Disorders), Situated Cognition, Orthorexia Nervosa). Facilities supporting our teaching and research include eye-tracking (with 6 mobile and static eye trackers), virtual reality, brain stimulation (tDCS, TMS), electrophysiological recording (EEG), and behavioural laboratories as well as fMRI provided by the Institute of Medical Imaging and Visualisation, and nutrition laboratories provided by the Department of Nutrition Science.

We seek to appoint a lecturer to join our dynamic team. We are looking for a clinical or counselling psychologist who can contribute to the delivery of our BSc Psychology with Counselling course and our MSc Foundations of Clinical Psychology course. Experience in designing and delivering engaging teaching is essential. You will be adept at using IT, planning, organising and managing conflicting priorities.

You will be qualified to Doctorate level, be research active and committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.

This position is available part-time for 0.8 FTE.

This position is offered on a permanent basis.

For an informal discussion and further information please contact Prof Jan Wiener, Head of School of Psychology (jwiener@bournemouth.ac.uk).

This position will not typically meet the salary threshold requirements for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Route within the UK Visa and Immigration service’s Points Based System, unless exceptional circumstances apply, e.g. meeting the ‘new entrant’ criteria. You can assess your eligibility for sponsorship on the UKVI website.

About the department

The breadth of subject areas in the Faculty means our cutting-edge research is delivering real benefits to digital creative industries, simulation domains, cyber security, human centred artificial intelligence, cognitive science and many others. Our staff base includes high profile researchers who are involved in both UK and global consortia of externally funded collaborations, furthering knowledge in the aforementioned areas plus many more, thus providing significant impact to the economy as well as society and, ultimately, the quality of living across the globe.
