Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a PhD or MFA from a recognized university in Theatre, with established practice in the Dramatic Arts or a closely related field.
Candidates should also possess:
- Ideally at least five (5) years’ experience in teaching and curriculum development at the tertiary level
- A good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
- Proficiency in two or more of the following areas:
- Caribbean Theatre Researcher
- Performer
- Director
- Dramaturge
- Caribbean Dance
- Carnival and Caribbean Musical Forms
- Public Service in the Arts
- Educative Theatre
Candidates with the following would have an advantage:
- Master’s Degree in Theatre, with practice and a creative research agenda focused on contemporary issues, including the politics of theatre in culture and social activism
- Evidence of a track record of research and publications or creative practice and productions of international quality
- Knowledge of Caribbean Theatre, with an appreciation of current conversations and developments in international theatre
The following would be considered assets:
- Certificate in university teaching and learning
- Evidence of continuing professional development related to teaching and learning, and subject knowledge
- Experience teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Proficiency in the design, evaluation and development of Theatre Arts curriculum and curriculum materials
- Proficiency in supervision of student projects, research and departmental productions
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching courses in the Certificate, Bachelor’s Degree and Post Graduate programmes in Theatre and Carnival Performing Arts
- Developing courses and programmes in Creative Arts in partnership with other Faculty members, regional or international stakeholders
- Supervising student projects and providing academic advising
- Managing outreach projects and supervising research
- Undertaking a major responsibility for the supervision and/or direction of annual Departmental productions
Personal Attributes
The Campus places high priority on individuals of integrity who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential.
Candidate should also:
- Possess a proven appreciation of the inter-relatedness of the arts with a willingness to integrate the arts
- Be self-motivated with strong organizational skills
- Be able to inspire and mobilize student involvement in projects and productions
- Be able to teach in multiple modes such as distance education, Face-to-Face, online, hybrid and blended environments
- Possess good Information Technology skills in teaching
