Lecturer (Level B.1) in Plant Ecology

- Salary package: $123,435 FTE (Level B.1) plus 17% employer's superannuation contribution and annual leave loading.
- Full-time - 35 hours per week, fixed term for 36 months
- Based at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde
The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled academic to contribute to research and teaching in plant ecology, conservation, and biodiversity science within the School of Natural Sciences. Research may focus on areas such as biology and community ecology, biodiversity patterns, and ecosystem functioning. There will be opportunities to engage with external partners, including local councils, environmental agencies, and industry, to ensure research outcomes inform biodiversity management and conservation practice.
The successful candidate will also contribute to high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs in biology, ecology and environmental science. We value teaching approaches that engage students through field-based learning, collaborative projects, and real-world problem solving. The appointee will help foster an inclusive learning environment and support students in developing the scientific, analytical, and practical skills needed to address contemporary environmental challenges and contribute to biodiversity conservation.
Some of your key responsibilities include
- Developing a research program in plant ecology
- Apply for research funding and develop a network of collaboration with external stakeholders
- Teaching and convening units in biology, ecology, and environmental sciences
- Engaging with students through lectures, practicals, field activities
- Contributing to the academic life of the School through engagement with committees and other School activities
About you (Selection Criteria)
You will hold a PhD in ecology, plant ecology, conservation biology, or a closely related discipline. You will have demonstrated research expertise in plant ecology, with a strong understanding of conservation practice. You will bring experience in university-level teaching and a genuine commitment to student engagement and inclusive education. The ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and to inspire students is essential.
