POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department of Kinesiology at Saginaw Valley State University invites applications for a full-time Health and Physical Education lecturer position. This renewable, non-tenure-track position supports the department's commitment to preparing knowledgeable and skillful educators for K-12 settings. The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate courses (100 and 200 level) to prepare future Health and Physical Education teachers and may contribute to courses across the K-12 Health and Physical Education, Exercise Science, and Rehabilitative Medicine programs.
This position focuses on teaching excellence, student engagement, and service, consistent with the SVSU Faculty Association Contract. Teaching responsibilities will include foundational, methods-based, and practicum experiences at the freshman (1XX) and sophomore (2XX) levels aligned with current standards and licensure expectations. The lecturer will also support departmental initiatives, participate in curriculum development and program assessment, and engage in meaningful service to the department, university, and community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master's degree in Health Education, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a closely related field (with specialization in Health and Physical Education).
- Evidence of successful teaching experience in higher education and/or K-12 settings.
- Demonstrated commitment to student-centered pedagogy and inclusive teaching practices.
- Knowledge of state and national standards in Health and Physical Education (e.g., SHAPE America).
- Effective communication and collaboration skills suitable for a dynamic academic environment.
- Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- K-12 teaching experience in Health and Physical Education.
- University-level teaching experience in methods, curriculum, or practicum-based education courses.
- Familiarity with curriculum development, assessment, and teacher certification/licensure processes.
- Experience supporting pre-service teachers through advising, mentorship, or supervision.
- Membership or involvement in relevant professional organizations (e.g., SHAPE America).
- Additional certifications such as CHES, ACSM, or NSCA-CSCS are advantageous but not required.
