Lecturer or Assistant Professor in 20th/21st Century French Literature
The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at Mount Allison University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor specializing in 20th/21st century French literature. Candidates will have a PhD (or equivalent degree) in 20th/21st French literature in hand by the anticipated start date of July 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Native or near-native fluency in French is essential, as is experience teaching university-level French language to non-native speakers.
We are seeking a dynamic colleague with a strong research profile who will enhance our current offerings in canonic and non-canonic areas of the literature of France from 1900 to the present. We encourage applications from candidates working with a variety of critical perspectives and/or intersectional approaches. The ability to develop or teach courses in French cinema or cultural studies will be considered an asset.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching at all levels and strong community engagement. The yearly teaching load is 5 undergraduate courses per academic year, with a course release available in the first years of the appointment. These courses will include French language courses at the 1000-, 2000-, and 3000- levels, in addition to literature courses at the 3000-level in the candidate’s area of expertise.
Full-time members of the Modern Languages and Literatures Department are also expected to contribute to curriculum development, departmental and university committees, and other administrative tasks. As university administration is conducted primarily in English, a good working knowledge of spoken and written English is a desirable attribute.
A complete application will include:
- an application letter
- a curriculum vitae
- a teaching dossier which includes, but is not limited to, a brief statement of teaching philosophy and a summary of teaching experience
- a brief statement of research interests
- 3 academic letters of reference, sent under separate cover
