Our Environmental Planning programme has been proactive and effective in growing both research income and student numbers, so we are looking for this additional role to join our team to service the growth. The programme has a vibrant student and staff culture, underpinned by the commitment to excellence and demonstrated by student success, research achievements and industry recognition. 

Te Kura Toi School of Arts is seeking a full-time Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Environmental Planning. The role is required to contribute to the teaching, postgraduate supervision and administration requirements of the Environmental Planning programme, maintain and develop original scholarship and research, and undertake professional/community/iwi service activities relevant to the profession or discipline. 

We require your expert knowledge of Environmental Planning, with experience relevant to the level expected of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. The 4 pillars of the role require:

  • Teaching and Learning: Preparing and delivering innovative, research-informed lectures and the assessment of that learning
  • Supervision: Supervise honours, graduate and postgraduate students
  • Research: Build and maintain an active research programme and conduct quality research and contribute to knowledge development of your specialist areas through scholarship and publication
  • Service and Administration: Carry out administration and service relevant to the role

Salary will be in the range of $92,603 to $148,799 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours a week), based on our Hillcrest Campus.

You will have the ability to contribute to Environmental Planning through broad and in-depth knowledge of an area of environmental planning and theory and practice, such as resource management and planning in Aotearoa New Zealand regulatory context, urban economics, urban design, housing, transport or disasters. We expect a research and scholarship record that is appropriate to the position sought. You have either significant potential to, or demonstrated success in, attracting external research funding. 

You will have experience in undergraduate teaching, post-graduate supervision, and bring your proven ability to communicate effectively with students and staff, along with your commitment to innovative teaching methods. The role of Te Kura Toi School of Arts is to teach at undergraduate, postgraduate and experiential (internship/externship) levels in the fields of Arts, including Environmental Planning, Humanities, Music, & Media and Creative Technologies, and to undertake research in these areas. The school offers a range of papers in Arts, at undergraduate, post-graduate and professional training levels.
