Overview
The Department of Industrial Design and Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the University of Botswana, invites applications for the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Ergonomics. This re-advertisement seeks candidates to contribute to teaching, research, and service in ergonomics and human factors in product design.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Ergonomics in Product Design (e.g., Physical Ergonomics, Cognitive Ergonomics, Human Factors in Design) and related areas.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate research projects.
- Conduct research in ergonomics and complement existing departmental research activities.
- Participate in departmental academic, professional, and community activities.
- Contribute to university governance, social engagement, and other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements
Lecturer
- PhD in Ergonomics, Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Design (with specialization in Ergonomics), or a related discipline.
- Master’s degree in the above fields.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Design & Technology Education, Ergonomics, Human Factors Engineering, or related field with at least 2.1 (Second Class, First Division) or equivalent GPA (e.g., 3.6/5).
- Evidence of engagement in research.
- Registered or eligible to register with ERB as a Professional Engineer.
- Teaching experience and evidence of governance/social engagement are advantageous.
- Industrial experience and/or professional certifications (CPE, C.Erg.) are a plus.
Note: In special circumstances, a relevant Master’s with a Bachelor’s degree meeting the above criteria may be considered.
Senior Lecturer
- PhD in Ergonomics, Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Design (with specialization in Ergonomics), or related discipline.
- Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees as above.
- Minimum 3 years teaching experience in ergonomics or related areas at university level.
- Proven research track record:
- At least 6 research outputs (4 refereed journal articles; remaining can be chapters, proceedings, or an academic book).
- Sustained research output: minimum 1 peer-reviewed publication every 2 years.
- Presentations at national/international conferences.
- Lead or single author on at least 2 refereed journal articles.
- Demonstrated research impact (citations, h-index, patents, policy influence, inclusion in curricula, etc.).
- Recognition at national/international level (editorial board memberships, keynote invitations, peer-reviewing).
- Evidence of governance, social engagement, research/academic leadership, research grants, or program development.
- Registered or eligible to register with ERB as a Professional Engineer.
