Base Salary Level B/C/D, $127,436 - $207,069 p.a + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
The School of Physics at the University of Sydney is currently seeking applications for a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Applied Plasma Physics and Biointerface Engineering to establish an ambitious research program spanning the fields of plasma science and biomedical technologies. The successful candidate will build collaborations with the SMART CRC (https://smartcrc.com.au/); the Soft Electronics Alliance (SEA) (https://soft-electronics-eng.sydney.edu.au/); and the Plasma Hub Australia (https://www.ozplasma.com/), contributing to a vibrant plasma science and engineering community advancing technologies for biomedicine and sustainability.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- contribute to outstanding teaching and learning in Physics and Biomedical Engineering
- demonstrate research excellence, develop a program of original research either independently or as part of a team, and pursue external funding to support this research
- develop and maintain collaborations within the School of Physics and the School of Biomedical Engineering
- participate in research student supervision at the undergraduate and postgraduate level
- develop and maintain external research partnerships and engagement, including as a core partner in large multidisciplinary initiatives involving clinical and industry partners
- contribute to engagement and service/administrative activities of the School of Physics, School of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering
- contribute to and help shape the strategic goals of the Schools and Faculties.

About you

As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Applied Plasma Physics and Biointerface Engineering who has:
- a PhD or other research doctorate in a relevant field
- a strong track record of research including applied plasma physics and biointerface engineering
- demonstrated expertise in plasma processing, including vacuum systems, high voltage pulsed power and plasma diagnostics
- demonstrated experience in materials / surface science and engineering
- the skill to clearly express ideas and communicate within a team environment
- the ability to work independently on problems, and motivate junior members of the team
- demonstrated ability and enthusiasm to work in multidisciplinary contexts, including biomedical and clinical partners
- experience working with industry partners and ideally also as a core partner in large multi-institutional projects
- a capability to see the bigger picture, and have vision for the future development of your projects
- experience in university-level teaching, including lecturing or similar presentations
- sufficient proficiency in physics and engineering to teach, with appropriate preparation time, into undergraduate physics and biomedical engineering classes
- demonstrated progress toward your own independent research program evidenced by original, high-quality, research, as evidenced by refereed publications in particular; a track record of external funding success is an advantage, especially at Level C or expected at Level D. In accord with the international Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), journal impact factors will not be considered and should not be mentioned in your application
- evidence of developing capacity to contribute to governance, administration, and leadership in the higher education sector.
