The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

We have exciting permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) opportunities for Lecturers/Senior Lecturers to make significant impact and develop their career in teaching, research and service.

We are particularly interested in accounting scholars who can contribute to our teaching and research in Tax.

We embrace practice-led, research-informed approaches to teaching. Your contributions to programme and course development will support our continuous-improvement focus. You will teach across programmes as assigned by the Head of Department and be comfortable using digital resources to enhance learning. You will publish actively in your specialised field/s and contribute to research with real-world impact. We offer an excellent research environment with individual research funds and opportunities to apply for contestable research funds, and with guidance available from senior scholars. It is also expected that over time the successful candidate will seek and attract external research funding, engage with government, business, professional bodies and the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities.

As an academic member of staff at AUT, you’ll blend teaching, research and engagement to create outcomes that have real impact on the world. b) Evidence of high-quality teaching and satisfactory student evaluations.

1. Qualification:

  • A PhD in Accounting.

2. Teaching:

  • More experienced candidates will have previous lecturing experience in Accounting, evidence of curriculum development and preferably experience supervising Masters and/or PhD students.
  • An early career academic will ideally have at least some previous teaching assistant experience in Accounting.
  • Please highlight any experience/ability to teach Tax; and if relevant, auditing.
  • Proficiency in using data analytics tools for accounting applications is highly desirable.

3. Research:

  • An early career academic will have the basis of a solid research pipeline. Evidence of proactively pursuing external research income is desirable.
  • More experienced candidates will already have a more established research programme and a proven research track record with quality publications and also success in external funding bid). Evidence of securing or contributing to external research income is desirable.

4. Citizenship and Service:

  • Contribution to collegial development of the Department and Faculty through respectful and transparent interactions with colleagues.
  • Engagement with external community members, industries, government, professional accounting bodies or other stakeholders to disseminate research and create opportunities.
  • Experience in engaging with media and translating their research to more general audiences is preferable.

  • Salary Ranges | Ngā Utu: Lecturer - $92,567 to $110,166; Senior Lecturer - $113,413 to $148,295 (appointment level and salary will be commensurate with skills and experience of the successful candidate).
