The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience sits within the School of Science at Auckland University of Technology, one of New Zealand’s most innovative and future-focused universities. The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience is seeking to make a full-time appointment at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level. We are especially interested in candidates with applied expertise in health psychology, digital health, behaviour change, or applied neuroscience, but we will consider other specialisations that complement and build the Department’s existing expertise. 

The School and Department are committed to advancing a Te Tiriti-honouring curriculum, you will contribute to this kaupapa, through recognition and advancement of responsibilities and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The successful applicant will actively engage in facilitating delivery of education in both our undergraduate and postgraduate psychology programmes. They will also be expected to contribute to supervision of postgraduate students enrolled in the Honours, Masters and Doctoral programmes, be actively involved in research significantly contributing to the research culture at AUT.

We embrace practice-led, research-informed approaches to teaching. Your contributions to programme and course development will support our continuous-improvement focus. You will teach across programmes as assigned by the Head of Department/School and be comfortable using digital resources to enhance learning. You will publish actively in your specialised field/s. We offer an excellent research environment with contestable research funds, and with guidance available from senior scholars. It is also expected that over time the successful candidate will seek and attract external research funding, engage with government, business, professional bodies and the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities.

  • a teaching and research statement (1 page each max),

Criteria: 

  1. Qualification:
  • A PhD in Psychology (or a related field). 
  1. Teaching:
  • An early career academic will ideally have at least some previous teaching assistant experience.
  • More experienced candidates will have previous lecturing experience, evidence of curriculum development and preferably experience supervising Masters and/or PhD students.
  1. Research:
  • An early career academic will have the basis of a solid research pipeline and a job market paper available.
  • More experienced candidates will already have a more established research programme and a proven research track record with quality publications and ideally also success in external funding bids).
  • Evidence of proactively pursuing external research income is desirable /or
  • Evidence of securing or contributing to external research income is desirable.
