About the Roles

Join RMIT’s School of Engineering to deliver high-impact teaching and applied research in Water Infrastructure Engineering. Working from Melbourne’s CBD campus, you will collaborate with students, researchers and industry partners in areas including water infrastructure, fatberg management, sewer corrosion and wastewater treatment. Appointment may be made at Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) level. Level B suits candidates building an independent profile in teaching, research and industry engagement; Level C suits candidates with an established track record and demonstrated leadership in research, curriculum and academic service.

At Level B, you will contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, build a strong research profile aligned to the School’s priorities, and develop productive links with academic, industry and professional communities. You may also contribute to course coordination.

At Level C, you will make a significant contribution to teaching, research and academic leadership, including leading high-quality research aligned to the School’s priorities, strengthening strategic partnerships, and contributing to program or organisational leadership.

Key Responsibilities

As a Lecturer (Level B), you will:

  • Undertake independent teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level including: designing, conducting and moderating assessment; implementing improvements informed by course evaluation activities and student feedback.
  • Undertake independent professional activities, scholarship and/or conduct high quality research activities appropriate to the profession or discipline including: managing individual projects within timelines and budgets and ensuring compliance with quality and reporting requirements; publishing research results in high quality outlets as lead or co-author; preparing and submitting external research funding applications; and supervising higher degree by research candidates.
  • Undertake administration duties, which may include course coordination role or management of a small award program.

As a Senior Lecturer (Level C), you will also:

  • Make original contributions in teaching and/or scholarship which expand knowledge or practice within the discipline including: designing, conducting and moderating assessment; implementing improvements informed by course evaluation activities and student feedback.
  • Conduct and lead high quality research, recognised at the national level: developing highly successful research teams; managing research projects and programs within timelines and budget and ensuring compliance with quality and reporting requirements; regularly publishing research results in high quality outlets as lead author and in collaboration with other researchers; identifying appropriate funding sources and prepare successful external research funding submissions; supervising higher degree by research candidates.
  • Participate in School and College strategy development and governance and make a significant contribution to administration activities of an organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level, which may include program management of a large award program or a number of smaller award programs.

About You

You are a research-active academic in Water Infrastructure Engineering with a strong commitment to teaching, collaboration and industry engagement. Level B is suited to candidates building independence and momentum; Level C is suited to candidates with established academic leadership and broader institutional impact.

You will have:

  • Level B — demonstrated expertise and an emerging track record in one or more of water infrastructure, fatberg management, sewer corrosion and wastewater treatment, with the capacity to build an independent academic profile and develop strong industry engagement and collaboration opportunities. Level C — demonstrated expertise and an established track record in these areas, with evidence of national standing, strong industry engagement experience and the capacity to lead research, teaching and industry engagement.
  • Level B — demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including online delivery, and to contribute to curriculum and assessment design. Level C — demonstrated ability to lead curriculum innovation and coordinate large courses or programs, including implementing student-centred approaches and driving quality improvement.
  • Level B — capacity to contribute to course coordination and to work effectively with students to support learning, engagement and success. Level C — demonstrated capacity to lead significant academic programs or organisational contributions, including mentoring staff and building effective teams.
  • Level B — evidence of quality research outputs and developing potential to attract competitive funding, supervise higher degree by research candidates, and contribute to collaborative projects and industry engagement. Level C — strong record of high-quality research outputs, success in securing external funding, and extensive experience supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research performance.
  • Level B — excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration. Level C — high-level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to work with senior stakeholders, external partners and industry to shape outcomes and strengthen the School’s profile.

Qualifications:

  • Mandatory: A PhD in Civil Engineering
