Lecturer / Senior Lecturer - Mathematics or Statistics

Join a visionary and collaborative School at one of Australia’s leading research‑intensive universities. The School of Mathematics and Physics seeks to appoint an academic at Level B or Level C to a continuing Teaching and Research position in Mathematics or Statistics. The role is open to all areas of mathematics or statistics, with applied mathematicians, computational mathematicians and statisticians particularly encouraged to apply.
You will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and curriculum development, develop and sustain a strong research program with national and growing international recognition, supervise Higher Degree by Research students, and actively participate in academic citizenship and service activities.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Teaching: Develop, coordinate and deliver engaging undergraduate and postgraduate courses; contribute to innovative curriculum design; assess student learning; provide academic counselling; and ensure teaching practice aligns with University standards
- Research: Establish and sustain an independent or collaborative research program; publish high-quality research outputs; seek, obtain and manage competitive research funding; and contribute to research translation and impact.
- Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise Honours and Higher Degree by Research students; contribute to researcher capability development; and support a positive, high-performing research culture.
- Citizenship and Service: Actively contribute to School, Faculty and University service; foster partnerships with industry, government and the wider community; and consistently demonstrate UQ values through collegial leadership and collaboration.
About You
A PhD or equivalent qualification in mathematics, statistics or a closely related discipline. Evidence of effective teaching practice across undergraduate and/or postgraduate programs, including course coordination and curriculum development (Level C). A developing (Level B) or established (Level C) research profile with high-quality publications aligned to discipline norms. Demonstrated success, or strong potential, in seeking and managing external research funding. Experience supervising Honours and/or Higher Degree by Research students, or a clear trajectory towards this capability. A collaborative approach to academic citizenship, including participation in internal service roles and external engagement activities. The ability to work inclusively and productively within a diverse academic community, recognising performance relative to opportunity.
