King's College London – Public Services Management & Organisation

About us:

King’s College London is an internationally renowned university, dedicated to driving positive and sustainable change in society and realising our vision of making the world a better place. The university is ranked 38th in the world and 6th in the UK in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. King’s Business School (KBS) has been on a rapid, upwards trajectory, and now serves over 3,500 students representing over 80 different nationalities and comprises around 170 faculty. KBS has triple accreditation from AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA; achieved a top decile REF 2021 result; and been ranked 6/123 in the Complete University Guide 2026.

PSMO brings together scholars working across management and organisation studies, to study work practices, the professions and the public services. Members explore some of the most complex and pressing issues faced by modern organisations, from the challenges of managing wicked public policy problems to the implications of new technologies for work and organising. We address these concerns by examining the ways in which organisations are rooted in broader social and political systems, structures, processes and practices. The Department runs two Masters programmes (MSc in Public Policy & Management; MSc in Management & Technological Change), and contributes to the full suite of undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education courses within the Business School.

About the role:

The Public Services Management & Organisation (PSMO) department is seeking to recruit one or more outstanding scholars at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader level.

Candidates must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (at Lecturer level, candidates pending results or very close to completion will be considered). The School places a premium on international levels of scholarship and research excellence, and you will be expected to play a role in the standing and development of PSMO in this regard. We also expect commitment to excellence in teaching, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The successful candidate will complement our research interests and build capacity on School teaching programmes. In relation to research, we are particularly interested in candidates who offer expertise in ‘digital government,’ ‘AI regulation,’ ‘technologies in public services,’ or ‘technology and (professional) work.’ In teaching, the successful candidate will be able to teach in at least one of the following areas: ‘research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative),’ ‘technology & innovation,’ ‘design & responsible innovation,’ or ‘AI at Work.’ The post is open to outstanding social science scholars, whether they are currently based in a business school or another relevant department.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week) and you will be offered an indefinite contract (with an initial probationary period). Our core hours are 09:00 until 17:00, however we are open to flexibility within this, which can be discussed at the offer stage if you are successful.
