School of Health, Psychological and Medical Sciences

Building on its strengths as Australia’s leading regional university, UniSQ partners closely with its communities to drive innovation and create opportunity through education and research. Guided by our values of respect, integrity, and excellence, UniSQ’s Strategic Plan 2026–2030 sets a clear ambition: to be Australia’s most transformative university by embracing our regional identity, fostering inclusive learning and research environments, and delivering globally relevant outcomes with strong local impact.

The School of Health, Psychological and Medical Sciences contributes to this vision by preparing graduates to support and enhance the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. Underpinned by a strong emphasis on work-integrated learning and applied research, we are committed to equipping graduates with the necessary skills to make a meaningful impact in diverse health settings. As the School continues to grow from strength to strength and expands its offerings in Health, we are seeking a passionate and innovative academic to join us in building a better future for our communities.

Our Social Work discipline embraces fields of study and practice which focus on improving well-being and quality of life for individuals, families, group, and communities. We are now seeking a passionate individual who is able to contribute and deliver into our undergraduate and postgraduate Social Work programs.

Who you are

You are a passionate and engaged academic who is committed to teaching excellence, social impact, and scholarly practice in social work and human services. You enjoy working collaboratively, value diversity and inclusion, and are motivated by the opportunity to shape the next generation of social work professionals.

You bring contemporary discipline knowledge, reflective teaching approaches, and a developing research agenda aligned with social work practice, policy, or community wellbeing.

What you'll do

This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact - on students, research outcomes, industry engagement, and the communities UniSQ serves.

In this role, you’ll help shape the next generation of social work and human services professionals through high-quality, engaging teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. You’ll design and deliver student-centred, evidence-based learning experiences that are digitally enabled and grounded in employability and social justice principles.

You’ll supervise honours and higher degree research students, supporting them to achieve successful and timely outcomes, while also building your own research profile through quality publications and collaborative projects. There are strong opportunities to contribute to, and lead, externally funded and industry-engaged research that delivers real-world impact.

Beyond teaching and research, you’ll play an active role in the life of the School - contributing to service, engaging with the profession and community, and fostering a positive, collegial culture. This is a role where your work will have meaningful impact on students, the profession, and the communities they go on to serve, while supporting your ongoing academic growth and career development.

What will help you succeed

You will possess a masters or doctoral qualification and/or equivalent accreditation and standing in the Social Work field and will hold membership of or be eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and hold or be eligible to hold a Blue Card and a Yellow Card.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience delivering engaging, critically reflexive teaching that supports strong student outcomes
  • Ability to leverage industry and community connections to enhance learning and ensure practice-relevant education
  • Experience and interest in research, relevant to applied social work practice
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse stakeholders.

If you’re passionate about socially impactful education and thrive on connection, collaboration, and real-world engagement, you’ll excel in this role.

Please note: this job is located at either our Toowoomba or Ipswich campus.
