Department Sociology College College of Arts & Sciences Campus Atlanta Position Type Full Time Faculty Posting Type Internal/External About the Department We serve about 500 undergraduate majors who in addition to a Bachelor’s degree, can obtain a Social Justice Certificate through our department before graduation. The department offers an Applied Master’s program designed to build a generation of public sociologists and a Joint MA/PhD program which attracts students in the department’s six specialty areas: gender, sexuality, race, health, life course, and urban sociology. Position Description The Department of Sociology at Georgia State University ( GSU ) invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position to begin January 2027. The successful applicant is expected to teach courses in “ Introduction to Sociology;” “Social Statistics”; and “Gender and Society” . In addition to instruction, lecturers will mentor undergraduate students and participate in departmental governance. This is a full-time non-tenure-track teaching position (4/4 teaching load), with the benefits, rights, and responsibilities of regular faculty. Lecturers have the opportunity for promotion to Senior Lecturer and Principal Senior Lecturer. Our lecturers are full members of the department’s intellectual community and leadership team. The College of Arts & Sciences supports professional success for all faculty through mentoring programs and representation of faculty from all ranks in college-level program development. Required Experience Required Education A PhD in Sociology Preferred Qualifications/Experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities ● Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching ● Ability to teach the following courses: “ Introduction to Sociology;” “Social Statistics”; and “Gender and Society” . ● A commitment to serving GSU’s diverse student body ● Ability to deliver effective instruction across multiple modalities including online and face-to-face teaching.
