  • Part-time (0.5 FTE) appointment on a fixed term basis till 31 December 2026
  • Base salary range: Level B, $118,150 – $139,812 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The UWA Medical School, located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja, is the largest and longest‑established medical school in Western Australia and has a distinguished history in Aboriginal medical education. Within this environment, the Centre for Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing plays a central role in strengthening Indigenous student pathways, teaching and community engagement.

Building on UWA’s legacy—which includes establishing the nationally recognised Centre for Aboriginal Medical and Dental Health (CAMDH) and graduating Australia’s first Indigenous doctor—the Centre continues to lead meaningful initiatives that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation in medicine. You will join a collaborative Aboriginal Health team dedicated to delivering high‑quality teaching, shaping culturally safe curricula and fostering strong partnerships with communities, schools and stakeholders.

This is a vibrant and purposeful setting where education, culture and community come together to improve health outcomes and grow the future Indigenous medical workforce.

About the opportunity

  • Provide culturally appropriate support, mentoring and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students in the MD program.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact, helping students navigate wellbeing, learning and academic challenges.
  • Work collaboratively with academic support teams, Year Committees, Program Directors and the Student Matters Committee to ensure strong outcomes for Indigenous students.
  • Offer cultural guidance and represent student voice at key decision-making forums, including School Executive and Board of Examiners.
  • Lead and contribute to community engagement, outreach, recruitment activities and pathways that strengthen Indigenous student participation.
  • Support Indigenous Health teaching, assessment and curriculum development alongside the broader Aboriginal Health team.

About you

  • Unconditional practising registration as a medical practitioner or psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  • Hold a relevant medical speciality College Fellowship, Master’s-level qualification or equivalent clinical experience
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations or health/education settings.
  • Demonstrated capability in medical or health student teaching, learning and academic support.
  • Skilled in building relationships, communicating effectively and working with diverse stakeholders, including Elders, community leaders and academic teams.
  • Committed to equity, diversity and culturally safe learning environments.
