The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University invites applications for a Professor or Instructional Professional with working titles of Professor of Law or Clinical Professor of Law as a Tenure or Continuous Status (contingent on the successful result of an expedited tenure/continuous status review process) to hold the Leo Beus Faculty Chair in Civil Trial Advocacy.

We seek a nationally recognized or rising scholar, teacher, or practitioner with extensive experience in civil trial advocacy—whether developed through years of practice in the courtroom or through significant academic work and clinical leadership. This position is intended for an individual who will be the intellectual and curricular leader of our civil litigation and trial advocacy offerings.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

  • Hold the Leo Beus Faculty Chair in Civil Trial Advocacy, a donor-supported position recognizing excellence in litigation education and professional leadership;
  • Lead and enhance our litigation skills curriculum, with a focus on delivering high-impact instruction across in-person, online, and hybrid formats;
  • Mentor students pursuing litigation careers and collaborate with faculty across doctrinal, clinical, and experiential areas.
  • Deliver instruction in law school courses, especially required first-year and upper-level classes.
  • Participate in committee work and contribute to the college/university community.
  • Participate in professional activities, including presentations, publications, and broader involvement in the legal academic community.
  • Help shape the future of law at ASU Law, known for innovation, access, and impact.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school, or its equivalent, in an area related to law school curriculum
  • Experiences as a tenured or tenure-track member of a law school faculty, and
  • At least two years of experience in law practice or in teaching law to JD students, or the ability to teach a required first-year course

Desired Qualifications:

  • A history of distinguished scholarly achievement commensurate with their years of experience, and
  • Strong potential for future scholarly research

The deadline is November 29, 2025. Applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis for a reserve pool. Applications in the reserve pool may then be reviewed in the order in which they were received, until the position is filled.
