This position offers the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research within the award-winning Nexus program, while developing independent research capabilities and building a strong academic profile for future career advancement.
Nexus is delivered by La Trobe University as part of the High Achieving Teachers Program with the support of the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment. In a first-of-its-kind employment-based pathway into secondary teaching, Nexus prepares, mentors and graduates selected teaching candidates for economically, culturally diverse and hard-to-staff schools in Melbourne, regional and rural Victoria, and Sydney. Nexus is unique in its commitment to preparing teachers who are culturally diverse, socially just and who come from regional backgrounds themselves, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- PhD in Education or related discipline (completed within the last 5 years)
- Demonstrated experience in educational research methodologies (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods). This includes skills relating to: Statistical analysis (descriptive and inferential statistics), Survey design and analysis, Software skills: SPSS, R, SAS, Stata, NVivo, Interviews, Thematic or other types of qualitative analysis, Mixed-method integration techniques
- Familiarity and understanding of online survey questionnaire tools (such as RedCap/QuestionPro/Qualtrics)
- Demonstrated ability to synthesise data from a diverse range of sources
- Track record of recent publications in peer-reviewed education journals
- Strong knowledge and understanding of ethical research practices and procedures
- Knowledge, understanding, and first-hand experience of the Australian school context
- Demonstrated awareness of Australian education policy and curriculum standards
- Understanding of the challenges and opportunities within Australian educational settings
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Exceptional attention to detail, including in written communications, data management, and analysis
