Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT II) - Theriogenology
The Theriogenology service at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to support advanced reproductive care in a collaborative academic teaching hospital. This role blends hands-on clinical work with laboratory, client service, and instructional responsibilities across equine, farm, and companion animal settings. Working closely with faculty clinicians, students, and hospital teams, the technician plays a key role in patient care, research, and teaching. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and energized by a fast-paced environment that advances both clinical excellence and veterinary education.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide patient care and client support for the Reproductive Medicine service across equine, farm, and companion animal settings
- Assist with admissions, client communication, documentation, estimates, and discharge instructions
- Set up, assist with, and clean up after reproductive, diagnostic, and emergency procedures while monitoring patient status
- Manage clinical and laboratory operations, including equipment, samples, semen processing, supplies, medications, and safety protocols
- Support teaching and research by supervising students, assisting with labs, ensuring compliance, and contributing to research activities
Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited institution with eligibility for New York State licensure within three months of hire
- At least one year of relevant experience working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician, preferably with small animal or equine experience
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-demand clinical environment while maintaining strong attention to detail
- Capacity to meet the physical demands of the role, including prolonged standing and kneeling, lifting and restraining patients, and managing stressful situations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working at an equine, canine or farm animal breeding operation.
- Experience with equine and farm animals strongly desired, with stallion and foal handling
Important Details about the Position
- This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
- This is a full-time three-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
- We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
- Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
