Stanford University's School of Medicine is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 to support defined research projects in the Weissman Lab in the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (ISCBRM). In this role, you will apply a comprehensive understanding of life science theories and methods to participate in experimental design; independently plan, conduct, and analyze experiments; and interpret results in collaboration with senior research staff. You will support time-sensitive in vivo mouse studies, tissue processing in a BSL2 environment, flow cytometry/FACS-based workflows, and immunocytochemistry/imaging (Leica SP8). This position requires meticulous documentation, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. You will also contribute to scientific communications (protocol updates, presentations, and publication support) and assist with general laboratory operations as needed.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related biological degree.
- In vitro experience.
- Significant mouse breeding and handling experience (2 years).
- Imaging experience.
- Previous work with an animal injury model.
- Minimum of one year animal handling experience.
- Ability to independently operate Leica SP8 2 photon microscope.
Responsibilities
Core Duties:
- Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects inlab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory.
- Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records ofexperiments and outcomes.
- Apply the theories and methods of a life science discipline tointerpret and perform analyses of experiment results; offer suggestionsregarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaborationwith senior researcher.
- Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with newprocedures and apply learnings to related research.
- Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate inthe preparation of written documents, including procedures,presentations, and proposals.
- Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock,manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general labsupport as needed.
- Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students onlab procedures or techniques.
Minimum Education andExperience
Bachelor's degree in related scientific field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstratedperformance to use knowledge and skills when needed.
- Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of scienceprincipals to problem solve work.
- Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments andoutcomes.
