The Cox Lab at Stanford University (coxlab.bio) is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 to join our research team developing novel technologies to measure RNA-protein interactions at unprecedented scales. Our goal is to create highly scalable experimental approaches that enable machine learning methods to predict the structure and properties of RNA-protein complexes. We employ sophisticated biochemical and genetic techniques in this cutting-edge research at the intersection of molecular biology and artificial intelligence.
We seek a highly collaborative, resourceful, and organized individual with strong problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills. This position offers an exceptional opportunity for a motivated recent college graduate with substantial research experience to advance their career in high-impact biological research.
In this role, you will design and execute experiments, manage daily laboratory operations, and provide critical support for ongoing research projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Research & Experimental Work:
- Plan and execute biochemical, genetic, and cell biological experiments related to protein-RNA interaction studies
- Analyze experimental data and troubleshoot protocols in collaboration with senior researchers
- Stay current with relevant literature and apply new methodologies to ongoing projects
- Contribute to manuscript preparation and scientific presentations
Laboratory Management:
- Maintain laboratory stocks, equipment, and chemical inventory
- Oversee laboratory safety protocols and compliance
- Purchase reagents and coordinate supply management
- Assist with training new staff and students on laboratory procedures
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the PI and team members to maintain a positive, inclusive laboratory culture
- Participate in lab meetings, data discussions, and project planning
- Support preparation of research documents, presentations, and grant proposals
*Other duties may also be assigned.
Starting date is flexible between June 1 and August 1, 2025.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Bioengineering, Cell Biology, or related scientific field is desired.
- Proficiency with basic molecular biology techniques, such as gel electrophoresis, PCR, recombinant DNA cloning and recombinant protein expression and purification
- Basic understanding of computational analysis including basic coding skills
- Meticulous record keeping and organizational skills
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree in related scientific field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed.
- Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principals to problem solve work.
- Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
- General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
- Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.
