The Department of Public Health, Environments and Society (PHES) is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to contribute to the UKRI-funded Local Health and Global Profits programme, a national research consortium led by the University of Bath and involving partners at Cambridge, Edinburgh, Sheffield and LSHTM.

Candidates must have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic. The postholder will play a central role in conducting systems evaluations across up to eight local authority case study sites in England. Working within an interdisciplinary team, the Research Fellow will primarily use qualitative methods, including interviews, focus groups, observation and documentary analysis, and will lead on the analysis and synthesis of qualitative data using systems evaluation frameworks. The role requires an excellent understanding of English local government and policymaking processes, a strong interest in the commercial determinants of health, and a willingness to travel for fieldwork.

The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed term until 31 March 2028. The post is funded by the Local Health and Global Profits UKRI funded health hub and is available from 01 April 2026.

The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 6 in the range £45,728 - £51,872 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
