M-2438 Postdoc in High-throughput Quantum Materials Science of Silicon Carbide Nanophotonic Devices

Join us for building the next generation of semiconductor quantum chips! You will be part of the LIST Materials Research and Technology department, where you will carry out your work in the Quantum Materials Group, led by Dr. Florian Kaiser. Within our FNR PEARL project “AQuaTSiC” we are looking for a postdoc to support our activities in nanofabrication of electro-photonic devices in SiC. With these devices we strive to make the next decisive steps towards a quantum repeater based quantum internet. To this end, our overall goal is to develop quantum nanophotonic chips, in which colour centres are used for interference experiments to mediate entanglement between distant colour centre spins. Your work supporting and further develops the fabrication of these chips, i.e. together with 1-2 PhD students, you will work on the sample process line involving several cleaning steps, electron and optical lithography, reactive ion etching, as well as surface treatment (ALD, CVD, …). Classical analysis via SEM, AFM, XPS, Raman will be required. Finally, quantum analysis is required in terms of measuring the optical efficiency via our fibre gluing station, as well as low temperature characterisation of the spin-optical stability of colour centres. With this project, you will initiate disruptive breakthroughs towards scalable quantum technologies based on industrial semiconductors. Optional follow-up funding until mid-2030 is available, as well as the principal possibility to develop additional projects.
