Job Description:

This position is responsible for daily maintenance and repair of campus buildings and equipment located on the Health Science Campus. Performance of maintenance activities support the department’s mission to ensure buildings and equipment operate as true assets in support of University and individual career goals. The incumbent is responsible for meeting work schedules, and service requests, by providing effective and efficient maintenance workmanship.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent GED
• Department of Labor or equivalent journeyman MRW certificate or associates degree or technical school certification and three (3) or more years related experience.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience performing both rough and finish residential or commercial carpentry work.
• Must satisfactorily pass the differential aptitude test
• Must satisfactorily pass a practical skills test
• Ability to work cooperatively with others, solve technical problems, read technical documents, and work with dexterity is required.
• Understanding of building layout, terminology, and university policy and procedures to be obtained post hire.
• Must have knowledge and skill in leadership, blueprint reading, regulations, codes, mathematics, and hand and power tool operation.
• Ability to work independently on most jobs, perform measurements, and have layout skills.
• Must have valid driver’s license and insurable under university driving policy.
• Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position. Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Communication and other skills:

• Verbal skills to communicate with other trades and work control.
• Must possess verbal and written communication skills necessary to provide excellent customer service to staff, faculty, students, patients, family members, and management.
