Maintainer I - Third Shift 2 Positions

This position performs janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, grounds keeping or maintenance tasks in a state educational institution on the 3rd shift (11:00pm - 7:00am). There are 2 open positions, and this is an AFSCME Union position with a salary of Grade 10, Step 1: $43,505.28 annually, or $1,673.28 biweekly.
- Performs routine manual tasks involved in the maintenance, repair or beautification of campus grounds or roads, such as cutting grass, cleaning culverts, loading and unloading vehicles, and painting fences.
- Performs routine laboring tasks to assist skilled tradespeople in maintenance, repair or construction work.
- Plants, seeds, transplants, removes, prunes, trims, waters, sprays or fertilizes trees, shrubbery, grass, plants or flowers.
- Sweeps sidewalks, rakes leaves, shovels snow, and performs other manual tasks involved with snow removal.
- Cleans campus property such as offices, classrooms, corridors, walls, floors, windows, furniture, toilets, and fixtures by washing, waxing, buffing, sweeping, polishing, dusting, or vacuum cleaning.
- Cleans, washes, refuels, oils or greases trucks or automobiles.
- Performs manual labor in a stockroom, such as loading or unloading freight, receiving, unpacking and storing goods, and keeping records.
- Locks or unlocks premises and reports hazardous situations.
- Makes general repairs of a simple nature, including minor repairs to groundskeeping equipment.
- Handles trunks, baggage and luggage.
- Operates wheel tractors, electric trimmers, buffers or other mechanical equipment and drives a truck.
- Keeps simple records, such as vehicle maintenance logs.
Working conditions: Maintainers stand and walk for prolonged periods; lift and carry heavy objects; work outdoors in all types of weather; are exposed to hazards like chemicals, fumes, and high noise levels; and may work from ladders and scaffolds.
Required qualifications: Ability to follow instructions, understand policies, establish harmonious relationships, deal tactfully with others, stand or walk for prolonged periods, lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and demonstrate physical stamina, manual dexterity, and mechanical aptitude. Additional qualifications may include operating tree trimming equipment or a motor vehicle.
