The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing maintenance and service repairs on a variety of equipment and facilities found in academic, residential, and office settings. This position includes plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, appliances, lighting, door & access, flooring, and building envelopes, etc. The Maintenance Technician will work collaboratively with other teammates in Campus Operations. This position requires an understanding of multiple trade functions and operations, and has a strong commitment to safety and efficiency. To be successful in this role, the individual must have a proven track record of exceptional workmanship, efficient problem solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.

• Wide range of knowledge to perform maintenance needs and responses for various trades – mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, light electrical, construction, appliances, as well as tools and equipment needed for repairs and preventive maintenance service.
• Conduct investigation to identify trouble areas and make necessary repairs.
• Knowledgeable on various appliances from HVAC components, washer / dryers, kitchen appliances, hot water heaters, etc, to troubleshoot, diagnose and make repairs.
• Perform installation and modification work on HVACs systems and appliances.
• Maintain records of equipment repairs, adjustments, replacement parts, and report problems to the Director of Facilities. Utilize Asset Essential software for tracking, logging time, and closing work orders.
• Maintain regular, predictable attendance on campus in accordance with University policy.
• Attend / complete all required safety training and meetings (e.g., OSHA, machinery operation training, Bloodborne pathogens, fire safety, etc). Follow all safety practices and policies.
• Support additional functions and services provided by the Campus Service Center (custodial and grounds maintenance, such as, but not limited to cleaning, laying carpet/LVT, snow/ice removal, disaster clean up, etc.).
• Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with all levels of the University community to provide education and customer service.
• Participate in weekly on call rotations - some nights and weekends are required.
• Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to follow instructions regarding the use of supplies, chemicals, equipment, and use as directed.
• Ability to use standard 6’ to 40’ extension ladder; man lifts
• Ability to safely operate power tools, golf carts / UTVs, trucks / trailers, etc.
• Some night and weekend hours are necessary.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent. Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred.
• Proven experience working in a trade and providing service in commercial and residential settings.
• Proven ability to diagnose and make necessary repairs, following safety instructions and directions.
• Proficiency with hand tools and other equipment.
• Valid Driver's License
• Excellent active listening, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Self-motivated, independent, and reliable with a strong work ethic.
• Ability to lift and move items up to 50-75 pounds and be physically able to stand, walk, climb, squat, kneel, push, pull, twist, bend, lift and carry items.
