Makerspace Manager
Chief Objective of Position
To assure the safe and continued operation of the Science Engineering Research Center (SERC) Makerspace by ensuring the space complies to applicable regulations, provide training, education, and supervision to Makerspace users, and support SEC engineering programs.
Work Tasks
- Instruction: Train users on all equipment within the makerspace and associated areas, and create training guidelines for each piece of equipment. Teach two (2) labs per semester in the makerspace.
- Supervision: Responsible for supervising the makerspace and anyone using the space. Responsible for training of all makerspace users in the safe operation of equipment and safe usage of the space. May become responsible for supervising student employees if organizational growth requires.
- Student Support: Provide machining, manufacturing, or engineering consulting for student projects.
- Facilities Management: Responsible for oversight and management of the makerspace, including ensuring compliance with OSHA and all other state or federal regulations; perform routine maintenance on equipment; ensure a clean environment; Maintain and enforce access control for the makerspace by managing entry systems, verifying user authorization and training completion, and coordinating updates to permissions to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Inventory: Manage inventory of makerspace equipment and materials, ensuring accurate tracking, proper usage, and that items do not leave the facility without appropriate authorization.
- Research Support: Provide faculty with assistance with research-related fabrication.
- Procurement and Budget: Purchase supplies, accessories, and consumables for the makerspace; manage and track budget for the makerspace.
- Miscellaneous: Serve as a substitute for the Torrgler position when needed.
- Other Duties: As assigned by the Dean of NBS. This position is designated as a “responsible employee” who has the authority to redress sexual violence, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual violence or other student misconduct, or who a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty. Develops and maintains very positive and professional customer service and/or relations within the office/department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, guests, and employees. Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Fully supports the “Student’s First” value at CNU and routinely goes the extra mile in providing service. Follow workplace safety regulations and adhere to applicable standards, processes, and programs established for your position. Report unsafe work conditions to your supervisor. Immediately report work-related incidents to your supervisor and participate in accident investigation requests. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) related to position
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of 3D printers and fabrication tools and equipment.
Required Education
Master’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree with experience that equates to a advanced degree.
Additional Consideration - Education
Master’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or related area.
Experience Required
- Experience with fabrication tools and equipment.
- OSHA 10 (General Industry) or the ability to complete certification within 90 days
Additional Consideration - Experience
- Five (5) or more years experience in a similar or related position.
- Teaching experience in a makerspace, machine shop, or similar setting.
