GECAD (GECAD-EEA/00760) is recruiting 1 researcher for a Master Scholarship ("Bolsa de Doutoramento") in the field of Informatics for the R&D institution GECAD (GECAD-EEA/00760), in the scope of GENIUS Project ? Ref. COMPETE2030-FEDER-[contact details available in the full listing], co-financed by the Innovation and Digital Transition Thematic Program (COMPETE2030) through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Portugal 2030, under the following conditions:
1. SCIENTIFIC AREA
Informatics or similar
2. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum profile required: Master's in informatics or related field, enrolled in a PhD degree in artificial intelligence, data science or related field; or a postgraduate research degree, or equivalent. Proficient writing and speaking skills in English. Good teamwork skills. Strong programming skills, and experience in artificial intelligence.
Preferred profile: Previous experience in research activities and participation in research projects, particularly in the area of cybersecurity.
If the qualification has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, in accordance with the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and diplomas in Higher Education, awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and paragraph e) of paragraph 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of 03 August, and any formalities established therein must be complied with until the date of the act of hiring.
3. DURATION
The scholarship will have a duration of 6 months, starting September 2026 and may be renewed for equal periods, in no circumstances exceeding the limits defined in RBI-ISEP, or until the end of the project, whichever occurs first.
4. ACTIVITIES AND WORKPLAN
The work plan involves the following tasks:
- Design an automated validation architecture for software artifacts generated by Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Develop mechanisms for generating contextualized documentation.
- Create cross-verification methods between LLM-generated code and its associated documentation.
- Develop and implement specific metrics to assess the quality of AI-generated documentatiom.
- Participation and preparation of internal meetings and with partners (ISEP, Portuguese) locally or abroad
- Preparation of reports and scientific papers;
- Activities related with communication.
5. APPLICABLE LAWS AND REGULATIONS
Statute of the Research Fellow, approved by Law No. 40/2004, of August 18; Regulation of Research Scholarships of the Foundation for Science and Technology, approved by Regulation No. 950/2019, published in the 2nd series - Part C, of the Diário da Républica, of December 16, 2019, Regulation of Research Scholarships of ISEP, Decree-Law No. 66/2018, published in the Diário da Républica No. 157/2018, Series I of August 16, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and Decree-Law No. 60/2018, of August 3, which simplifies the administrative procedures necessary for the pursuit of research and development activities, all in their current versions.
6. SCIENTIFIC ORIENTATION AND WORKPLACE
The workplace is at ISEP, at GECAD, under scientific supervision of Professora Doutora Isabel Praça.
7. REMUNERATION
Monthly amount of the scholarship: 1 359,64€, paid by bank transfer (according to the table of monthly maintenance allowances: https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM-2026.pdf), supported through PAD No. C73128.
Depending on the cases, subject to the approval of the ISEP Administration, the scholarship amount may also be increased, provided that it does not entail any changes to the work plan, in accordance with the provisions of article 13, paragraph 4, of the Research Fellow Statute.
8. SELECTION METHODS AND EVALUATION PANEL
- Master Grade (30%)
- Curriculum Vitae evaluation (50%)
- Interview (20%)
The interview will be conducted in English.
The evaluation panel responsible for the selection process will be composed of

9. APPLICATION OF DOCUMENTS

- Certificate of qualifications / Document proving ownership of the academic degree and diploma, of the respective recognition when awarded by foreign higher education institutions or document proving the request for recognition;
- Proof of enrollment in a PhD programme in artificial intelligence, data science or related field, or in a postgraduate research degree, or equivalent;
- Other documents considered relevant.
If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled until the act of contracting.
10. APPLICATION PERIOD
A receção de candidaturas decorre entre 15 a 28 de setembro de 2026.
11. RESULTS PUBLICATION AND NOTIFICATION
The results of the evaluation will be disseminated via email, to the email address indicated in the application file.
12. COMPLAINT AND APPEAL PROCEDURES
If the result is unfavourable, the candidates have a period of 10 working days after the publication of the results of the evaluation of applications, to express their opinion, if they wish, in the context of a prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms provided for in the Code of Administrative Procedure.
From the final decision, candidates may lodge a complaint within 15 working days to the ISEP´s Director.
13. SELECTION RESERVATION
ISEP reserves the right to use the candidates not selected, in order of seriation, for the recruitment of a scholarship holder within the scope of the same project due to the withdrawal of the candidate initially selected.
