Master Teacher, Child Development Center
Job Summary
This 12-month grant-funded position is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum for preschool age children in a team environment. This position reports to the Director/Teacher, Littlest Learners Child Development Center.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop and implement appropriate lesson plans using Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) and MSDE guidelines
- Work as a collaborative team member with center staff, college faculty and parents
- Assist Center Director with administrative tasks including; scheduling, budgeting, purchasing, and program evaluation as needed
- Promote philosophy of Littlest Learners Child Development Center
- Collaborate with ECE community partners and CCPS to help children successfully transition to kindergarten
- Effectively utilize resources to enrich the learning environment
- Modify lessons to individualize learning for each child and provide inclusive environment
- Utilize a variety of curricular teaching methods including nature and arts based, as well as mandated MSDE curriculum
- Adhere to all safety procedures as outlined by Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care (MSDE OCC) Licensing
- Observe and evaluate children to document areas of growth and areas of need
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences
- Work collaboratively with the college education faculty in promoting the Lab School Model in ECE classes
- Serve as a mentor for teaching aides and college interns
- Assist with the MSDE and NAEYC Accreditation process
- Attend and participate in staff meetings
- Maintain daily written plans and organized paperwork
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements to Perform Work
- Two years’ experience in an early childhood classroom setting
- Meet MSDE requirements for Teacher in a Preschool Child Care Center
- Maryland State Teaching Certificate Early Childhood Education PreK-3 obtained by July 1, 2026.
- A bachelor's degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field, or from another country, verified as equivalent to a U.S. degree, or in an unrelated field, along with experience or qualifications in early childhood education.
- Educators with 10 years of experience as of July 1, 2025 can qualify, but they must meet additional assessment criteria with a minimum score determined by MSDE on the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and, by July 1, 2030, earn an associate degree in early childhood education.
Preferred: Master’s degree
