Mathematics Internships Coordinator [Temporary Cover/ 12-month fixed term]
Mathematics Internships Coordinator [Temporary Cover/ 12-month fixed term]
The Faculty of Mathematics is seeking an enthusiastic, well-organised colleague to take a leading role in coordinating and supporting the development of these programmes. This is an exceptional opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to student academic journeys while building valuable experience in programme management, stakeholder engagement, and outreach in a world-class academic environment.
This post is full-time and offered on a fixed-term basis for 12 months, or until the return of the current postholder (whichever is sooner).
Each summer, the Faculty of Mathematics welcomes around 100 students onto our portfolio of internship and summer research programmes. These initiatives are thriving, impactful, and central to the Faculty's mission to develop the next generation of mathematical researchers and innovators.
About Our Programmes
Summer Research in Maths (SRIM)
SRIM offers Cambridge undergraduate students the chance to conduct their own research project within the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS). Working closely with supervisors from DAMTP or DPMMS, students develop their research skills, learn to communicate technical ideas, and build foundations for future academic study.
Cambridge Mathematics Placements (CMP)
CMP connects talented undergraduate and Master's students with research placements in industry and across the University. Hosts range from cutting-edge tech companies to laboratories and interdisciplinary research groups. These projects allow students to apply mathematics to real-world challenges, develop sought-after transferable skills, and explore career pathways inside and outside academia.
Widening Participation Initiatives
The Faculty is deeply committed to improving access and representation in postgraduate mathematics. Through programmes such as the Philippa Fawcett Internships (for women, trans women and non-binary mathematicians) and the Cambridge Mathematics Open Internships (supporting underrepresented groups and students who have experienced educational disadvantage), we offer opportunities to exceptional students from outside Cambridge to undertake research internships within the CMS.
About the Role

You will support SRIM, CMP and widening participation initiatives, act as the key contact for students and partners, build strong external relationships, oversee programme administration and budgets, and champion the impact of our internships as a proactive ambassador.
This role offers the chance to take ownership of a dynamic, meaningful portfolio of work and to develop skills in programme coordination, stakeholder engagement, communications, and event management. This role is part of a friendly and highly collaborative professional services team.
About You

You will have strong communication skills and confidence working with a range of stakeholders, alongside solid IT proficiency (including Microsoft Office and tools like mail-merge and Power Automate).
