MCCC, Full-Time (Tenure Track) Assistant Professor -Sociology

The Assistant Professor will work as a faculty member in the Social Sciences department housed in the Liberal Studies and the Arts division. The division's vision is to be known for our experiential academic programs, student-centered approach to general education, racially and culturally aware curriculum, and arts focused community events and collaborations. The position requires a wide range of professional responsibilities and activities related to supporting student success and building sociology offerings for current and future students. The position requires student advising, attendance at all team, departmental, divisional and all college meetings, serving on college committees and other duties as assigned and outlined in the Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) Collective Bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Teach and assess a range of sociology classes and help create additional course and program offerings.
  • Support departmental initiatives and the social science associate's degree
  • Maintain proficiency in classroom technology as well as hybrid and asynchronous teaching modalities
  • Serve on departmental, college, and division committees
  • Advise students
  • Other duties as assigned and outlined in the MCCC Agreement

Job Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Sociology from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience in higher education
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in curriculum and course development
  • Experience teaching in multiple modalities and with learning management systems
  • Knowledge of recent developments in the field of sociology
  • Awareness of the sensitivity to educational goals of a diverse population
  • Record of effective advising to help students reach their educational, career, and personal goals
  • Understanding of evidence-based teaching strategies to improve student learning with a wide range of instructional systems development, tutoring methods, and techniques for student support and success

Preferred:

  • Ph. D in sociology
  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience at a community college
  • Active participation in professional conferences and organizations
  • Participation in professional development on student success or related topics

Additional Information:

Position Status: Full-time benefited Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) union position

Position Start Date: Spring 2026 semester

Term of appointment: This is a full-time, tenure track position. Terms governed by MCCC/MTA Agreement.

Supervisor: Reports directly to the Dean of Liberal Studies and the Arts

Salary: $58,438-$67,833 (Commensurate with Education and Experience)

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
