Position Summary
With direction from the Zone Manager and Working Supervisor, the Mechanic works with a team to perform painting maintenance for campus buildings. Additionally, the Mechanic works closely with internal customers including students, faculty and staff to resolve issues and work orders. Typical craft-specific work includes, but is not limited to, the room finish applications, surface repair and preparation such as mudding and taping, hot patches and wood filler, matching and mixing paint, assembling scaffolds and safely using ladders and lifts. The mechanic may be asked at times to perform multi-craft maintenance. Activities may include working with basic plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, and carpentry.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform a range of painting, patching and staining projects including touch-ups and make-readies.
- Protect rooms and fixtures using drop cloths, masking and other coverings.
- Respond to work orders and other requests in a timely, efficient, competent, knowledgeable, and friendly manner.
- Perform preventative maintenance based on the building needs and individual skillset (e.g., plunging toilet, etc.).
- Proactively identify, communicate and address needs without direction when appropriate.
- Maintain data per departmental policy.
- Utilize materials, supplies, tools, and other University property in a safe, productive manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Must have successfully completed a recognized craft apprenticeship program, a technical school training program (such as a Ranken Technical College two-year certification program) or other equivalent training program.
- Must be able to obtain a Missouri Class E Driver’s License by the end of the probationary period and cannot drive University owned vehicles until Class E Driver’s License is obtained.
