Mechanical Construction Inspector
The Modernization Project Office (MPO) is responsible for the engineering, design, cost estimating, scheduling, and project controls on conventional construction projects, including the selection of architectural/engineering firms, contractors and others engaged for these projects.
As a member of the Modernization Project Office, the experienced mechanical inspector will inspect plumbing /mechanical/HVAC work associated with new construction and/or renovation work to ensure conformance with contract documents and applicable codes and standards.
The ideal candidate will have field experience in construction with an emphasis on HVAC, plumbing, pipe fitting and fire protection.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparation of daily narrative reports.
- Verification of work performed on contractor payment applications.
- Coordination of construction work with facility operations and other stakeholders.
- Responsible for quality of work.
- Verification of contractor compliance with contract drawings and specifications.
- Coordination of construction activities with facility user and support divisions to meet operational requirements.
- Responsible to verify installation against shop drawings and specifications.
- Conformance with contractual safety requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelors of Science Degree or NICET III certification or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- 5 or more years' experience in construction inspection of Mechanical / Plumbing / HVAC.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Working knowledge of the latest version of the mechanical and plumbing ICC building codes and testing criteria for all types of mechanical systems.
- Valid driver's license.
- The ability to work Overtime on weekends or extended hours to accommodate contractor work schedules.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
- 10 or more years' experience in construction inspection of Mechanical / Plumbing / HVAC.
- ICC Certified Mechanical Inspector.
- NICET Level II and III Certification.
- Working knowledge of the latest version of the mechanical and plumbing ICC building codes and testing criteria for all types of mechanical systems is required.
- Knowledge of fire-stopping, fire-rated construction, and/or fire-proofing.
- OSHA 30-hour training.
Other Information
- Due to the need for unescorted access to controlled areas of the laboratory, this position is limited to U.S. citizens in accordance with site security requirements. A security clearance is not required at this time.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work overtime on weekends or extended hours to accommodate contractor work schedules.

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $92050 - $156150 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
