Mechanical HVAC Technician
Position Summary
Join the Ramily! WSSU is seeking an HVAC technician to join the Housing and Residence Life Facilities team.
The HVAC Technician will report to the Facilities Manager for Housing and Residence Life. The primary purpose of this position is to provide preventative maintenance to campus HVAC systems, campus steam and chilled water distribution systems and controls. Employees must work ‘on call’ during the approved appointed scheduled dates and times when requested. This also includes callback work if needed.
Responsibilities include:
- Inspecting HVAC systems for performance issues and safety risks
- Identifying issues such as leaks and faulty parts using diagnostic tools
- Inspecting system controls and safety features to identify root causes of issues
- Checking airflow and system pressures for preventative maintenance
- Cleaning and replacing filters, ducts, and vents
- Cleaning coils, lubricating moving parts such as motors or fans, refilling and recharging refrigerants
- Mounting and connecting compressors, evaporators, and thermostats
- Maintaining records of repairs and maintenance performed
- Managing work orders in Team Dynamix
- Adhering to safety procedures at all times and employing protective equipment when necessary to ensure a safe and healthy living, learning, and working environment

Requirements and Preferences
Minimum Experience/Education: High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.
Preferred: Three years of experience in preventive and corrective maintenance work of building systems. Knowledge of practices and principles required to perform minor corrective and preventive maintenance of various building systems; plumbing, HVAC (split systems), electrical and general maintenance.
Required License or Certification: Valid US Drivers License, Universal CFC certification

Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies
- Knowledge - Technical (25%): Trouble shooting - Inspect HVAC systems for performance issues or safety risks. Use diagnostic tools to identify issues (e.g. lubricant, refrigerant leaks, faulty parts). Check system controls and safety features (BAS).
- Problem Solving (50%): Preventative Maintenance - Check airflow and system pressures. Clean or replace filters, ducts, and vents. Clean coils. Lubricate moving parts (motors, fan, etc.). Refill or recharge refrigerants. Mount and connect compressors, evaporators and thermostats.
- Coordination - Work (15%): Recordkeeping - Maintain records of repairs and maintenance performed. Manage work orders in Team Dynamix.
- Safety and Health Compliance (10%): Safety - Follow safety procedures and use protective equipment.
Salary: 35,099.00 - 74,402.00
