Medical Assistant - Dermatology
As a Medical Assistant II within the Department of Dermatology, you will assist in the delivery of patient care in a multi-specialty ambulatory group practice. Under the supervision of clinical staff, you'll perform various clinical and administrative tasks that ensure high-quality patient care and optimal clinic operations. Your responsibilities will include performing patient care procedures, assisting with clinical tasks, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining clinic workflow. You may be required to float across ambulatory sites as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Functions:
- Take and document vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and skin cancer history.
- Assist providers and patients with exams and procedures.
- Perform sterile processing tasks and prepare instruments for transport.
- Ensure patient safety during transport and assist with monitoring patient flow.
- Prepare and document biopsies, including handling and transporting samples.
- Perform laboratory procedures and assist with referrals and insurance authorizations.
- Assist physicians with patient communications and documentation in APeX system.
- Maintain locked medication cabinets at all times.
Communication:
- Ensure positive communication with patients, staff, and providers, upholding UCSF's telephone and House Standards.
- Act as a liaison between patients, providers, and office teams to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Handle patient concerns with professionalism and help resolve conflicts effectively.
- Communicate delays and appointment updates to patients in a timely manner.
Operations Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean, well-stocked clinic environment, including ordering supplies.
- Coordinate insurance authorizations, laboratory scheduling, and complex patient procedures.
- Adhere to infection control procedures and help maintain equipment standards.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
