Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the Abrons Student Health Center (SHC) is to provide student centered affordable, quality health and preventive services to the students of UNCW.
Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the Student Health Center Lab while serving as the lab content expert/technical consultant to the rest of the staff. Duties include performing waived and moderately complex test procedures in the areas of serology, microbiology, microscopy and hematology as well as interpreting results, drawing blood, preparing specimens that are being sent to the reference lab, managing CAP survey process, and performing quality controls as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemistry, or a biological science; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Position requires compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.

- Experience working in a college health or clinic-based lab.
- Experience managing a staff training program.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- ASCP Certification.
Required Certifications or Licensures
Current CPR certification required within 3 months of hire.
