Job Description

The Department of Surgery at the University of Missouri has an opportunity for medical scribes in the Division of General Surgery. This position will assist with facilitating patient flow and ensuring an accurate and complete medical record for each patient.

Description of job duties primarily include:

  • Accompany physician and/or advance practice provider (APP) into the patient examination room when appropriate in order to transcribe a history and physical exam, and document accurately the physician's/APP encounter with the patient and others if present.
  • List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician/APP.
  • Transcribe patient orders including laboratory test, radiology tests, medications, etc.
  • Chart provider/patient encounter in real time.
  • Document any procedures performed by the physician/APP.
  • Support care delivery by assisting with laboratory orders, patient referrals, and other duties as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will need to possess the following skillsets:

  • Medical terminology.
  • Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details.
  • Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications.
  • Legible handwriting and ability to accurately record information.
  • Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.
  • Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.

Shift

Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 4-hour consecutive shifts

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge or abilities can be acquired is necessary. Six (6) months experience as a Medical Scribe or 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Hiring Range: $12.83-$20.21
Grade: PAT-3A
University Title: MEDICAL SCRIBE
