"MEDscienceLAB Teacher & Program Coordinator"

Job Description

The MEDscienceLAB Teacher & Program Coordinator role is for an individual eager to teach in MEDscienceLAB programs, manage the laboratory space, and help grow this arm of the MEDscience Program. This position reports to the Assistant Director of MEDscienceLAB & Forensics and serves on a team dedicated to laboratory and forensics science programs. The lead teacher will co-teach classes in simulation and wet lab spaces, prepare labs, coordinate classes, manage equipment, and handle program coordination for HMS MEDscienceLAB and MEDscienceLAB Forensics classes. This role supports a pilot program for 18-25 year-old trainees for entry-level life sciences roles, including developing and implementing an expanded curriculum.

The teacher must be confident in a wet lab, teaching basics of laboratory research and techniques like gel electrophoresis, DNA extraction, PCR, and ELISA. Responsibilities include ordering reagents, preparing protocols, setting up equipment, and facilitating medical simulations as instructor, physician, patient, or counselor. The teacher should create a welcoming environment for students with varying needs and be passionate about accessibility in life sciences.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required; minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills: 1+ years of laboratory experience; 1+ years of science teaching experience; strong knowledge in biology and genetics; experience with lab techniques like ELISA, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and dilutions; excellent project management, prioritization, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Social media/marketing and workforce development experience are pluses.
