GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The clinician will serve as an integral member of the Assumption University Counseling Services team. The mental health professional will be responsible for administering and delivering mental health services to Assumption University students. This is a ten-month position, paid over twelve months, with 9 weeks off between June and August each year.

As a Catholic and Assumptionist University, Assumption seeks a clinician who understands and practices holistic care for the spiritual, social, and intellectual development of students.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide solution-focused individual and group counseling services to a diverse population of students.
  • Develop and assist with wellness initiatives, outreach, prevention education programs, and well-being workshops associated with the counseling office.
  • Provide risk assessments, intervention, and crisis counseling when necessary.
  • Provide consultations and case management to the faculty, staff, and parents as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison with on and off-campus support services for referral purposes and higher levels of care.
  • Develop and foster relationships across campus to support a multicultural student population. Implement and incorporate multicultural mental health components into all mental health training.
  • Provide training in mental health response to paraprofessional staff, including Residence Life staff, orientation leaders, and peer mentors.
  • Advise student mental health clubs and organizations, participate in campus committees, and professional development.
  • Responsible for contributing to the AU Strategic Plan.
  • Participates in a clinical on-call rotation regarding risk assessment and crisis response.
  • Complete necessary and required clinical and administrative paperwork on time and consistent with office expectations and professional standards.
  • Maintains professional and ethical counseling standards, including standards for counseling process notes.
  • Maintains professional licenses and participates in continuing education.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The candidate will hold a master's degree, preferably M. Ed or MA in counseling, and hold a current Massachusetts State License, LMHC, LCSW, LICSW, or equivalent.
  • Three years' experience as a counselor in an academic, clinical, or social service setting.
  • Experience with crisis assessment and intervention.
  • Personality and general attitude compatible with those who they are to be associated.
  • Ability to express self in oral and written communication.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Higher Education principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Prior experience in a college/university counseling center.
  • Experience relating to multicultural mental health outreach.
