Description

The Division of Student Affairs seeks a Mental Health Counselor to provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management, consultation, and outreach programming support on our Boston campus. The Mental Health Counselor works directly with undergraduate and graduate students in rigorous healthcare programs and provides consultation to faculty and staff in identifying and supporting the social and emotional needs of their students and the larger campus community. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Clinical (75%)

  • Provides short-term, goal-oriented individual psychotherapy to a diverse college student population presenting with a wide array of mental health concerns.
  • Delivers crisis intervention services, including same-day urgent appointments, risk assessment, safety planning, and coordination of higher levels of care when indicated.
  • Participates in the Counseling Center's on-call rotation, including after-hours consultation and crisis response in collaboration with on-campus and community partners as needed.
  • Provides case management services, including referrals to community providers, coordination with campus partners, follow-up outreach, and assistance navigating external treatment resources.
  • Provides supervision, training, and consultation to Master's and/or Doctoral level clinical interns.
  • Assists with mental health related leave of absences and post-hospitalization processes for students in collaboration with Student Affairs to support their successful return to the campus community and academic programs.
  • Maintains accurate, thorough, and timely clinical documentation utilizing the Center's electronic health record system in compliance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards.
  • Collaborates with fellow Counseling Services staff on centralization efforts to ensure that services, policies, and procedures remain equitable and consistent across campuses and implement Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains compliance with licensure requirements, professional development standards, and continuing education expectations.

Outreach and Programming (20%)

  • Contributes to campus-wide mental health outreach efforts, including workshops, psychoeducational programming, and prevention initiatives as assigned.
  • Participates in individual and group supervision regularly as well as staff training and retreats.

Student Affairs Duties (5%)

  • Participates in University-wide committees and programming/events such as Orientation, Open Houses, Commencement, and other events as requested.
  • Maintains knowledge related to Title IX, FERPA, and HIPAA regulations and response protocol.
  • Assists with clinical support and travel to other campuses as needed.
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required:

  • Minimum of a master's degree in social work, Counseling or related field.
  • Current licensure in Massachusetts as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Psychologist, or license eligible with the ability to obtain independent licensure within a specified timeframe.
  • Experience directly relevant to individual counseling and crisis management with college age students.
  • Experience working with diverse populations including an understanding of the educational, cultural and social needs of an international student community.
  • Strong clinical documentation skills and experience maintaining timely and accurate clinical records in an electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with members of the college community.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, possess ability to organize and prioritize tasks, tolerate interruptions to workflow and adapt to sudden shift in clinical demands.

Preferred:

  • Previous clinical experience in a college or university counseling center.
  • Experience providing supervision or mentorship to graduate trainees or interns.
  • Prior experience with delivering telehealth services.
  • Experience in serving in on-call capacity.
  • Experience working with international students, first generation college students, and other historically underrepresented student populations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical office or administrative working conditions. Staff are not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there are no special physical demands.
  • Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone. This is primarily an in-person position with the possibility of some remote work.
  • Occasional travel to other campuses may be required.

Compensation

The pay range associated with this posting reflects the amount the University reasonably expects to pay for this role at this time. Salary offers are determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications as well as internal equity, market data and pay in comparison to similarly situated employees doing comparable work.

Hiring Range: $70,900 - $78,800
