Mental Health First Aid Instructor

The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.

We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.

Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.

The role

We are seeking a passionate and qualified Mental Health First Aid Instructor (part-time contract at up to 18 hours/week) to deliver accredited MHFA training to students and staff. The postholder will support the university’s efforts to raise mental health awareness, build a network of trained Mental Health First Aiders, and help foster a compassionate, supportive campus culture.

About you

We are seeking an empathetic and engaging facilitator with a passion for promoting mental health awareness and reducing stigma. You are confident in delivering structured training, yet flexible in your approach—adapting your style to suit different audiences and learning needs. You value evidence-based practice, understand the nuances of working within an educational institution, and are committed to supporting a mentally healthy university culture.

Your emotional intelligence, professionalism, and collaborative nature make you a trusted presence in wellbeing conversations, and you’re motivated by helping others build the confidence to support themselves and those around them.

How to apply

To apply please submit a CV and a cover letter outlining how you meet the requirements of the role. You should include specific detail about how you meet the essential criteria stated in the person specification, including core competencies.

Please note that this role requires an enhanced DBS check.
