Mental Health Specialist III (Multiple Vacancies)
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Mental Health Specialist III for the Brief Treatment Department within Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare (UBHC).
The primary purpose of the Mental Health Specialist III/Driver position is to serve as a team member in providing and maintaining a safe therapeutic milieu. This position provides support and assists staff nurses as directed, as well as transports clients to and from treatment and other related activities. Actively participates in group activity and crisis intervention.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Engages consumer/patient in appropriate treatment intervention based on service plan and supervisory directions.
- Transports consumers in a timely and safe manner to and from treatment related activities.
- Completes all documentation within prescribed time frame.
- Maintains professional, effective, open, constructive and solution focused communication with members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Actively participates in UBHC and department meetings, as assigned.
- Demonstrates knowledge of University Behavioral Health Care's vision, mission, and values as these relate to daily activities, decisions, and quality improvement priorities.
Minimum Education and Experience
Associate's Degree and two (2) years experience in the provision of appropriate services in the behavioral health field or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related field; or a high school diploma and five (5) years experience in the provision of appropriate services within behavioral health.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Must be able to lift up to seventy (70) pounds multiple times a day.
- Requires bending, lifting, sitting.
- Some travel to client homes and community agencies.
- Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
- Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crisis, medical, substance use related and psychiatric.
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens that require use of personal protective equipment.
Special Conditions
Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol tests.
