Mental Health Specialist III Part Time
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a part-time Mental Health Specialist III for the Adult Residential in Newark within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Mental Health Specialist III is to ensure the safety of residents and assist them in carrying out activities of daily living.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides input into the development of Individualized Service Plans/Recovery Plans.
- Coordinates with supervisor and residential staff to implement residential service plan goals for residents.
- Provides supportive residential counseling to consumer/residents with empathy and concern.
- Responds with sensitivity to spiritual, cultural, and socioeconomic issues of consumer/residents.
- As required by individual program, monitors daily census sign-in sheets to ensure accurate consumer/residents entry to and departure from program.
- Ensures that all relevant attendance records and logs reflect the consumer/residents attendance.
- Effectively contributes to and supports an environment that enhances the positive self image of consumer/resident and preserves their human dignity.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Three (3) years of relevant full-time paid experience in the mental health field or one (1) year of full-time paid experience (part time and/or per diem experience may be substituted for the full-time equivalent) along with at least two (2) years of college majoring in a relevant mental health, social, or human services field, including twenty-four (24) verified credits in a relevant mental health, social, or human services field, such as psychology, social work, or counseling or three (3) years of college majoring in a relevant mental health, social, or human services field, including thirty-six (36) verified credits in a relevant mental health, social or human services field, such as psychology, social work, or counseling.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Walks and climbs stairs throughout the residence during the course of the shift to confer with residential clients and staff. In a scattered site setting, provides outreach in the community in the consumer's home located throughout the county. The employee is expected to drive throughout the week to locations in the community – to grocery stores, 12 Step Meetings and recreational activities. Weights of up to 25 lbs. may need to be lifted.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Located in community based housing that may include suburban type one family or duplex housing, clustered apartment building or High Rise Apartment building. Crisis intervention required at times. Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crises, both medical and psychiatric. Occasionally exposed to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment.
